Portable appliance Testing Labels
Any equipment that has been tested must be clearly Marked as tested. This is usually achieved by labeling the equipment with a PAT Testing label as shown in the image above.
The label must show
- A unique identification code, to enable the equipment to be identified.
- The status of the equipment following the testing. PASS or FAIL.
- The date the equipment was tested and the re-test period or the re-test date.
The information on these labels is also to facilitate the identification of the particular piece
of equipment, as many similar appliances may be present at the same location.
It also makes clear to a non-technical user what the condition of the appliance is and whether it
is currently safe to use.
The label may also contain further information about the appliance's fuse rating, the engineers initials and company name or logo.
From this information you should be able to see if your portable appliances are tested or not.
If your appliances do not have the green Labels you can be certain they are NOT tested. The label should be positioned in a prominent position where it can be clearly seen.
Equipment failing the inspection and testing must be put beyond use and clearly labeled indicating that it has failed.
